A tasty, unique, potato-snack idea for a souvenir from Japan

Jagabee (じゃがビー)

Jagabee Box (Salt)

Jagabee is a crispy, French fry-like potato snack. I like its unique, light crunch. It’s so addictive. It tastes great as a snack, but it also goes perfectly with beer.

Jagabee (Salt)

Several flavors are available: the green package is salt (my favorite), the orange is butter soy sauce, the blue is plain (no salt), and the pink one is pickled plum (umeboshi). You might also find limited-edition flavors. Jagabee often releases seasonal varieties, and regional-exclusive flavors are also available.

A box contains five individual packets. Each packet (15 g) is quite small, which always leaves me wanting more, but I convince myself that this size is good for portion control.

Jagabee Box (Salt)

Boxes are available for salt (green), butter soy sauce (orange), and pickled plum (pink). Jagabee is also sold in bags, with bag packages available for salt (green), butter soy sauce (orange), and plain (blue).

I think the box packaging is good for souvenirs because it helps protect the snacks from being crushed during travel (though boxes can take up a lot of space in your suitcase).

Both kids and adults would love Jagabee, but the package recommends it for ages four and older.

How much do they cost?

A box (75 g) costs around 300 yen, and a small bag (38 g) is typically around 150–180 yen. I always feel like the quantity is small, so I consider it a little bit expensive compared to other potato snacks.

Where can you find them?

It won’t be difficult to find them as they are widely available at many places, including drugstores (Matsumoto Kiyoshi, Sugi Pharmacy, Welcia, etc.), convenience stores (Seven-Eleven, Lawson, Family Mart, etc.), grocery stores (Seiyu, Maruetsu, Ito-Yokado, etc.), and more. Just for your information, you won't find the boxes in convenience stores—you’ll need to check drugstores and grocery stores for the box options.
