Yuskin Hana (ユースキンハナ)
Consistent use of a hand cream seems to be the best way to prevent chapped, dry hands. For me, frequent handwashing and the use of sanitizers (especially after the pandemic) have contributed to severe dryness, which the cold and dry winter weather makes even worse. To prevent this, I use several hand creams, and one of my favorites is the Yuskin Hana hand cream.
Yuskin is a Japanese company, and the brand is well-known for its skin moisturizers. I think the Yuskin Hana series would make a wonderful gift to bring back home. I like it for daytime use because its texture is rich but not very sticky or greasy unless I apply too much. It keeps my hands comfortably moisturized.
According to its website, the series offers 6 types of scents: Yuzu, Sakura (cherry blossom), Japanese Rose, Lavender, Kinmokusei (osmanthus), and Fragrance-Free (but I didn’t find the Kinmokusei/osmanthus scent at my local drug stores). My favorite is Yuzu, which is a Japanese citrus with a delightfully refreshing scent.
A key feature I appreciate is that the Yuskin Hana series doesn’t have a very strong scent. I generally choose scent-free hand creams because I don't want a strong fragrance distracting me while I eat, but this level of subtlety is just right. The refreshing scent is just enough to give me a good feeling.
A tube contains 50 g, and it fits well in a purse or bag. My hand cream in the above photo has a limited design of Miffy. The usual designs have illustrations of the scent’s flower.
The hand creams are gentle on the skin: skin irritation testing was performed, and they contain no parabens, alcohol, animal-based ingredients, or mineral oil.
How much do they cost?
They are around 550–770 yen, depending on where you get them.
Where can you find them?
They are available at drugstores (Matsumoto Kiyoshi, Sugi Pharmacy, Welcia, etc.)
I believe the Yuskin Hana cream, with its Japanese scents like Yuzu and Sakura, would be a nice souvenir to remember your trip.
